OBITUARY - MRS. J. L. LONG

Mrs. Mary Matilda LONG died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Arthur FRANKLIN, August 23, 1897, aged 48 years and 19 days. The deceased was born in Green County, Penn. Her maiden name was Miss Mary LANTRY and she was married to J[ames] L. LONG in 1872, and shortly after they moved to Ringgold County, Iowa, and later to this county [Taylor]. The husband and six children survive the wife and mother. She was not a church member but practiced the golden rule in her family and social relations. Her farewell words were "I am ready and willing to go." The remains were buried in the Blockton cemetery.
