Tingley High holds alumni banquet

The 95th Tingley High School alumni banquet was held Saturday, May 23, 2015 in the Tingley Community Building. Co-presidents Frank and Dean Eighme chose a patriotic theme honoring our veterans this Memorial week-end.

At 6 p.m. Dean welcomed 70 alumni and guests. His wife Virginia gave the invocation. A delicious buffet prepared by the Tingley Wagon Wheel Cafe was enjoyed by all.

Frank called the meeting to order. Jenesse Tull read the 2014 minutes. She had assumed the secretary position following the sudden death of last year's secretary Judy (Jobe) Pottorff on May 30, 2014. Mary Sue McIntosh gave her treasurer report with a balance of $603.65. For 2014 it was unanimously voted that Jenesse and Mary Sue retain their positions another year.

Volunteering to co-host the 2016 meeting were Brenda (Brown) Shellburg, George and Velma Peters and Glen Tull. It will be held again on Memorial week-end beginning at 6 p.m.

Letters were received from Lt. Col. Dietrich Gescke (1955 class) and former teacher Dick Gesling and Bonnie.

Frank thanked Doris (Johnson) Been for again printing the invitations and programs. He also thanked his daughter Pam Papenberg of Waukee and all his family and friends who helped in any way.

Dean read the roll of classes with special recognition to:

70 years - Cleone (Overholzer) Hosfield, Donald Weeda and Marvin Kester;
65 years - George Peters and Jack England;
60 years - Jenesse (Overholser) Tull, Ronald Tull and Elizabeth (Jobe) Welsh.

Cleone of the 70 year class was proud to have their high school teacher Marjorie Ibbotson present. Marjorie is 99 years young and was the oldest person attending.

Several poems written by the late Marjorie (Hillebran) Werner of the class of 1938 were read by Sue Richards.

An auction conducted by Frank, Dean and Jenesse followed the meeting. Proceeds will help to replenish the alumni funds. A beautiful red, white and blue afghan made and donated by Margaret (Troxell) Hull as well as Tingley yearbooks and Tingley collector plates and cook books were sold.

Frank introduced Don Wilson and Roy and Cathy Klobnak, known as "from the heart ministries" to present "a salute to veterans." They are known for entertaining at fairs and congregate meal sites as well as in men's and women's prisons. Cathy opened with how very blest we are to be Americans. They favored with several patriotic songs. Everyone enjoyed them very much.

Frank thanked everyone for coming and hoped they would all come back next year.
