Clair O. RHOADES, of Mount Ayr, last week received his appointment as unofficial recruiter for Ringgold county for the WAVES and SPARS.

A special drive for enlistment of women between the ages of 20 and 35, inclusive, in the WAVES and SPARS is underway in Iowa, and Mr. RHOADES is now co-operating with the navy recruiting service in taking applications for these branches from eligible women, and explaining the branches to interested persons.

Basic requirements for the WAVES-SPARS enlistment are as follows:

1. Be a citizen of the United States.

2. Be at least 20 and not yet 36 years of age.

3. Have no children under eighteen years of age.

4. Not married to a man in the navy (for WAVES) or the coast guard (for SPARS).

5. Have attended high school or business college for at least two years.

6. Meet the physical requirements.

No previous practical experience is needed to qualify for enlistment. Housewives or unemployed girls meeting basic requirements can qualify as easily as those now employed in civilian occupations. Enlistees will enter varius special types of duty such as yeomen, storekeepers, aviation or radio work, parachute rigger, pharmacy, electricity and photography.

Pay scales are the same as for men, with a uniform allowance of $200. Women accepted will receive preliminary traning, the length of this training to depend on their previous experience and the type of duty to which they are assigned. This training takes place at leading universities. Women accepted may be assigned to duty anywhere in the United States, but not outside the continental limits.

NOTE: Clair O. RHOADES, 65, a Mount Ayr mortician for approximately 40 years, died suddenly Friday night about 10:30 p.m. of a circulatory failure in his home in Mount Ayr. He had been in declining health for several years. [Interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa.]
