Meal site celebrates anniversary

Valentine's Day, 2006 had special meaning for the Tingley meal site as the site's 32nd anniversary and Valentine's Day were both celebrated. Everything was beautifull decorated by Sue RICHARDS in a Valentine motiff. Mother Nature also blessed the occasion with perfect weather.

A variety program of music, jokes, readings and royalty corwning, provided by Charlie's Revue and a combination of seniors from the site got underway at 11 a.m. The program began with all singing "When You're Smiling." A welcome was given by Nancy JARRED, site manager. Most of the music was sing-a-long with everyone participating, with exceptions of selections featuring just the band, Charlie and his bottles and solo selections, one being Dave PATCH. A skit by Wilmina and Dave JENNINGS depicted a guy teaching his sweetheart to drive.

Last year's king and queen, Marge and Dave PATCH, crowned the new king and queen for 2006. Wilmina and Dave JENNINGS. The crowns were made by Karon NAOMI. A reading written by Marge WERNER and given by Charlie MANDERS included responses from three former cooks present, Sharon CASE, Thelma DRAKE and Alice DILLENBURG, the present cook, Julie WHITE, the site manager, Nancy JARRED adn the volunteer present who helped organize the first musical entertainment and still does, Edith WOOD, and Charlie himself. In her response, JARRED expressed appreciation for the many volunteers who help in so many ways each and every day. She stated they're the most valuable possession the Tingley site has and attributes much of its success to them.

The local churches were recognized for the birthday cakes they furnish each month. Special recognition was given to the Christian Church who provided them last year.

Recognition was also given to the U.S. Bank, who contributes a bingo dollar each week.

She noted a big change occurred when meal delivery started to Kellerton. Recognition was given to Marvin DILLENBURG, who started as teh volunteer to deliver these meals and still does.

JARRED introducted the present site council members: Marge WERNER, Bonnie MANDERS, Irma HUNTSMAN, Darlene WHITE, Sharon CASE and herself. Thanks was given them for all their help.

Lu SCHOFIELD recited a little ditty she knew. A moment of silence was observed in memory of dear ones we've lost. The program closed with Charlie MANDERS leading "God Bless America." The blessing was given by Dave JENNINGS before all enjoyed the roast beef menu. Cake decorated with a red smiley Valentine face and ice cream cups were enjoyed for dessert and were donated by Sharon CASE and Nancy JARRED, in memory of volunteer, Betty LONG.

Guests present and introduced were nutrition direction for Area XIV Agency on Aging, Lily RIPPERGER and one Ringgold County Supervisor, Royce DREDGE. Also acknowledged were Advisory Board members, Irma HUNTSMAN and Marvin DILLENBURG and Board of Director membors, David JENNINGS and Royce DREDGE.

Lots of prizes were donated and given away in a drawing. Winners included Elmer VANDERPLUYM, Leola ADAMS, Lu SCHOFIELD, Sue RICHARDS, Turk ALLEN, Paul TRULLINGER, Beulah WALTER, Freda SHIELDS, Luella YOUNG, Dayna CAMPBELL, Barb WALTERS, Thelma DRAKE, Maxine WERNER, Betty OXENREIDER, Irma HUNTSMAN, Keith LININGER, Loren DRAKE, Barb BORRUSCH, Elosie WHITE, Don CAMPBELL, Cleone HOSFIELD, Vergene HIGGINS, Nancy JARRED, Norma PAXSON, Wanda McGAHUEY, Mabel WALTERS, Darlene VANDERPLUYM and Naomi HOSFIELD.

Sue RICHARDS, Betty OXENREIDER, Keith and Twilla LININGER, Karon NAOMI, Dayna CAMPBELL, Charlie and Bonnie MANDERS, Nancy JARRED and the meal site made these gifts possible.

Twilla and Keith LININGER, Sue RICHARDS and Turk ALLEN saw that everyone received a decorated treat bag. Everyone received a smiley face Valentine key ring as a favor.

Juts like a regular dinner theater, the occasion had programs made and donated by Bonnie and Charlie MANDERS.

Individuals came from all the way from Altoona, Windsor Heights and West Des Moines to be present for the day and to even be a member of the entertainment.

What special memories this milestone has for those sharing the food, fun and fellowship. As heard stated this day was, "The best ever. Wonder what it'll be next year?"
