Floyd W. McAllister

Memorial services were held Tuesday afternoon, April 1, at the Nevenhoven Funeral Home for Floyd W. McAllister, 96, who died Friday, March 28, 1997, in the Brookhaven Nursing Home, Brooklyn. The Rev. William Daylong, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, officiated, and the organist was Marilyn Kriegel. Private burial was in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.

Floyd was born Oct. 6, 1900, in Madison County, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Fannie Wilson McAllister. He received his elementary education in Madison County. During World War I, he served in the U.S. Army and was discharged Nov. 14, 1924. He then attended Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines, graduating Dec. 5, 1925. He moved to Brooklyn in December 1925, and started working at the Poweshiek County Savings Bank, retiring in 1974.

On Feb. 6, 1929, Floyd was married to Frances Louise Reed in Brooklyn. She died April 11, 1994.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and a member of Francis Gallagher American Legion Post #294. In 1928, he became a member of Corinthian Lodge #174 AF & AM. He was an original founder of the Brooklyn Victor Country Club. Floyd served as treasurer of the City of Brooklyn for 53 years, retiring in 1985.

He was preceded in death by his wife, and 10 brothers and sisters.

Surviving are two sisters-in-law, Helen Toomey of Sanibel, Fla., and Vesta McAllister of Tacoma, Wash., and nieces and nephews.

A memorial fund has been established for CSF of BGM and may be left with the Nevenhoven Funeral Home.
