ANOTHER PIONEER OF THIS VI-
CINITY GONE TO HIS REWARD.

News has reached Grinnell friends of the recent death and burial of Rev. Richard Breeden, late of Carpenter, Wyoming.

Mr. Breeden, son of "Uncle John" and "Aunt Margaret" Breeden, came with his parents from south-eastern Indiana to Iowa in 1855. He grew to manhood and spent the greater part of his life near Grinnell. His education was received in our public schools, in Hazel Dell Academy at Newton, in Iowa College, at Northwestern University and at Garrett Biblical Institute.

In the year of 1887 he was called to the ministry, joined the Iowa M.E. Conference and through a term of years served the churches as pastor at Malcom, Sonora, Marysville, Chillicothe, Drakeville, Bentonsport, Lebanon, Cincinnati, and North English. He has to his credit something over fifreen hundred people taken into the various churches under his charge in addition to a large number who were converted through his ministry and joined other churches.

In 1908 he with his family removed from this vicinity to Carpenter, Wyoming, where in addition to the development of a farm for their support he continued his work in the ministry by giving freely of his services to widely scattered settlements where such service was badly needed, and was instrumental in establishing a Methodist church in Carpenter, his home town.

Mr. Breeden was truly a pioneer in the best sense, having given freely of his time and strength where most needed regardless of their ability to compensate him in a material way. In fact he relied largely on the labor of his hands for the means with which to rear and support his family. And in conclusion, it is only fair to say that the splendid communites near Grinnell, such as Hickory Grove, Newburg and Chester Center owe in large measure their stability in moral and Christian standards to him and others of his character, such as his father and mother to whom reference has been made.
