Hartson Hackett Bryant was born in Lee County, Illinois, December 1, 1844, and died June 24, 1919, near Strahan, Iowa, at the age of 74 years; 6 months and 23 days. He left Illinois when a boy, and went with his parents to Minnesota, where he remained until 1874, coming to Pottawattamie County, Iowa, where he resided until last March, a year ago, when he moved to Mills County. Here he spent the remaining days. Mr. Bryant was a soldier in the Civil War, being mustered in 1863, and remaining in the service until its close. He was in Co. D Cavalry in Bracketts Battalion.

McDowell, of Greenwood, Nebr., served in the World War and spent some 8 or 9 months in France. All the children were present when the father passed away.

Mr. Bryant united with M. E. Church at Macedonia, Iowa, in 1883, and remained up to the time of his death. He held various official positions in the same and continued active in religious work as long as his health would permit. He was buried at Macedonia, Iowa.
