Eva Florence Wheatley, 99, of Atlantic died Thursday, Aug 24, at the Atlantic Care Center. The daughter of Elbridge G. and Florence E. (Rowe) Colburn, she was born Aug. 31, 1895, at Harlan and the family moved to Griswold in 1901. She was married to Casper E. Ackerman on Aug. 14, 1912, in Griswold and she moved to Atlantic following the death of her husband on Oct. 25, 1941. She was married to Frank L. Wheatley on Nov. 5, 1950, and he died in 1953. Mrs. Wheatley was a clerk many years at Spurgeons and was a nurse’s aide at the Atlantic Hospital for more than 10 years. She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Eastern Star and White Shrine. She would have observed her 100th birthday on Aug. 31. Surviving are a son, Roland “Rollie” Ackerman and his wife Dorothy of Atlantic; a granddaughter, and a great grandson. Also preceding her in death were a stillborn son, a grandson, three half-sisters and three half-brothers. Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. in the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic with the Rev. Jim Wakelin of the United Church of Christ officiating. Burial was in the Griswold Cemetery west of Griswold.
