GEORGE PLUMB, a popular citizen of Balknap Twp, was birn in Lincolnshire, England, May 20, 1842, son of WILLIAM and SARAH (GREY) PLUMB, who were also natives of England. The father was born in February 1811 and died in his native country May 12, 1884; the mother was born February 25, 1821. They reared a family of 6 children, 5 sons and 1 daughter. GEORGE PLUMB, our subject, was reared on a farm in England and also for 3 years worked in the dock-yard at Chatham. In 1871 he sailed from Liverpool to New York and then went to Mills Co, Iowa, where his two brothers, VALENTINE and FRANK PLUMB, then resided. He remained in that county until 1881 when he came to his present farm in Pottawattamie Co. Politically Mr. PLUMB is a Republican, and he has also served three years as a member of the School Board. He and his wife are members of th Methodist Episcopal Church. He was married in Lincolnshire, England, May 14, 1967, to Miss ANN COY, who was born in that country, daughter of THOMAS and ANN (THURBY) COY, both natives of England. Mr and Mrs PLUMB have 4 sons: Thomas William who was born in England is now farming for himself; Henry Reloy, Arthur Wesley and Walter Howard.
