OBITUARY.
Too late for mention in our issue of last week, the REPUBLICAN learned that Mrs. S. Perry Barr died on Sunday, November 26th, at her home in Des Moines, after a short illness from leakage of the heart. In her earlier years Mrs. Barr suffered from inflammatory rheumatism, resulting in a heart weakness. However, this did not cause her any trouble until during the past three years, subsequent to a serious illness and consequent operation which aggravated her old affliction.
Florence Landers, oldest daughter of Frederick B. and Sarah W. Landers, was born August 21, 1854, in New York state. Two years later she came to Decorah with her parents. Here she grew to young womanhood and was married on May 18, 1876, to S. Perry Barr. They continued to make their home in Decorah until the fall of 1886 when they moved to Eagle Grove, where Mr. Barr engaged in the grocery business. In 1898 they moved to Swea City where they resided for four years. A residence of six months in Des Moines followed, after which they made their home in Minneapolis for seven years. In the spring of 1909 they returned to Des Moines and there they have since maintained their home. Three children were born to them, all of who, with their father, survive. Early in her girlhood Mrs. Barr gave evidence of musical ability and a naturally sweet soprano voice was developed at the Boston Conservatory to concert capacity. Though a friendly generosity that was one of her life characteristics the people of Decorah, as well as of all other places where she made her home, were permitted to enjoy her music with her whenever her services might be called on. Mrs. Barr joined the Congregational church in 1876, and until her removal to Eagle Grove was a regular attendant upon its services and sang in the choir. At the time of her death she was a member of the First Methodist church of Des Moines. She was also a member of Rhoda Hinsdale Chapter, D. A. R., Schullsburg, Wis., and the Eastern Star of Armstrong, Iowa. Tt{sic} be on terms of intimate friendship with many, to be sincerely helpful to those about her, and to bring happiness and cheer into the lives of others, were among the characteristics that made her loved and mourned wherever she has extended her acquaintance. The funeral and burial was held at Des Moines on Thursday last.

Transcriber’s Note: Find a Grave shows she is buried in the Glendale Cemetery.
