Sheryl Ann West
July 20, 1956 - November 1, 2025

Sheryl Ann West, age 69, of Runnells, Iowa, passed away on November 1, 2025. Sheryl's family will greet friends for visitation on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City, Iowa, from 1:00 - 3:00 PM. Immediately following the visitation a short service will be held. Memorials may be made out to Sheryl's family, with checks made payable to Elisabeth Scovel. If you are unable to attend and wish to send a card, please address it to, "Attn: Sheryl West, Coburn Funeral Home, 24 W Howard St, Colfax, IA 50054."

The daughter of Lowman and Colene West (Wilcox), Sheryl was born in Des Moines on July 20, 1956. She grew up on the south side and graduated from Lincoln High School. Sheryl spent many years working as a custodian at the Southeast Polk School District. She spent most of her time at Four Mile and the middle school. In the 80s Sheryl moved to an acreage outside of Runnells, near the Des Moines River.

She loved the property and the surrounding landscape. If the weather was anywhere near decent, Sheryl was outside doing all sorts of things. She gardened, mushroom hunted, walked with the grandkids, watched birds, collected rocks and so much more. The land allowed her to relax after work; she could fill her hummingbird feeders or sit in the house with friends visiting for most of the night. When you came into her house, oftentimes she would have a John Wayne movie or The Young and Restless playing on the TV. If you caught her at the right time, she'd be glued to a paranormal show.

Sheryl loved those closest to her, they shared various activities over the years. She and her friends would play cribbage together. The grandkids would come over, and she would have different crafts ready to go. Antiques always caught her eye; she'd make it a point to go to antique shows whenever possible. She also loved her grand-dog, Indy. Liz wasn't sure how she'd react to the news of a dog joining them at home, so Indy was a secret for about a week. When Liz brought Indy home, she later found Sheryl playing with Indy and spoiling her.

Those left to honor Sheryl's memory include her children, Loren (Whitney) West, Elisabeth Scovel, and a God daughter, Shelly (Jason) Corbin; her grandkids, Loren, River, Serenity, and grand-dog, Indy; two siblings, Steve (Marie) West and Craig West; as well as two nieces, Christine (John) Galindo and Tricia (Tom) Ball.

Preceding Sheryl in death were her parents, Lowman and Colene West (Wilcox).
