Katherine Amanda Kunney Gerth died at 9:11 p.m. December 27, 2013. She simply passed away quietly and peacefully. Kay was born September 15, 1916 in Arlington, Iowa. Kay was raised in Iowa and lived in Des Moines, Iowa and Sarasota, Florida.

She graduated from Iowa State Teachers College. Kay taught 1st grade and later taught home bound polio patients in the 1950's.

She married Robert B. Young, had one daughter Susan (Stephen) Brody, later married Richard Morgan, and then John Frederick Gerth. Her family is daughter, Susan and husband Steve; grandsons, Stephen Douglas Brody and Barton Jay (Linda) Brody; granddaughter, Melissa (Don) Brody Peeler; and five great-granddaughters. Her beloved sister Adeline Palmer preceded her in death.

Kay loved beautiful things, gardening, Sarasota Opera Co. and fine music. She enjoyed Sarabay Country Club, playing golf, and bridge with friends.
