Irene Backstrom, of Norwalk, passed away on Friday, October 25, 2013 at the Regency Care Center in Norwalk. Irene was born on January 19, 1918, in Kirksville, MO. to B.E. and Anna Courtney.

Irene leaves behind her son, Roy (Delores) Sanford; daughter, Glennis (Dwayne) McAninch; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Backstrom

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Unity Pointe Hospice in memory of Irene.
