Altoona, IowaRalph P. Silver, 86, died Friday, October 25, 2013 at Unity Point Health Des Moines Methodist from leukemia. He was born April 19, 1927 to Roy and Winifred Silver in Altoona
Ralph graduated from Bondurant High School where he played football and basketball. He served in the US Army during World War II and married the love of his life, Virginia Hunt of Slater, in 1946.
Ralph was an entrepreneur his whole life, beginning with employment at John Deere, ownership of milk routes, and after moving to Iowa Great Lakes area in 1963, he continued with ownership of a beverage distributorship and later was a partner and manager of Arnold's Park Amusement Park. After retirement in 1989, he and Virginia returned to the Altoona area.
Ralph had a love for sports and people. He was a long time member of Altoona United Methodist Church, King David Masonic Lodge #407 in Altoona, Za Ga Zig Shrine, and Bondurant American Legion Post 396.
Ralph is survived by his loving wife of 67 1/2 years, Virginia; brothers, Donald (Phyllis) Silver, Wilbur (Evelyn) Silver, Keith Silver, and Carl (Christine) Silver; sister, Evelyn Little; many nieces and nephews; and a host of beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roy W. Silver; and sister, Wilma Newquist.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Altoona United Methodist Church, 602 5th Avenue SW, with burial following at Berwick Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church.
