Ronald L. Vorrath, 79, entered his eternal life on March 3, 2012 at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny. It was Ron's wish to be cremated and a Memorial Mass will be held for him at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 7, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3300 Easton Blvd. in Des Moines. A Memorial Gathering will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with a rosary service at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Grandview Park Funeral Home, 3211 Hubbell Ave, Des Moines. Private burial of his cremains will be at the Iowa Veteran's Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.

Ron was born in Bridgewater, Iowa to Orley and Christina Vorrath. He worked in the banking/finance industry, beginning his career at Dial Finance. Ron married Marlene Donovan on May 8, 1954 in Des Moines. He was a US Navy Veteran of the Korean War and served on the USS Taluga. He enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing.

He will be missed by his loving wife of 56 years, Marlene; children, Michael (Nancy) of Peoria, IL; Steven (Kelli) of West Des Moines; David (Linda) of Lake Worth, FL; Lisa (Tim) St. Arnold of Des Moines and Julie (Gary) Armstrong of Carlsbad, CA; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ruby Vorrath and his grandson, Cody St. Arnold.
