Desperate through grief over the loss of her husband who was killed in the Christmas coal mine last September, Mrs. William A. Jacques of Des Moines attempted suicide at Woodland Cemetery. She swallowed portion of an ounce phial of chloroform , threw the rest on her handkerchief, stuffed it into her mouth and pitched forward on to the grave of her husband. Prompt action on the part of an elderly lady who chanced to be visiting the cemetery doubtless saved the young woman’s life.
