Services Saturday at Plymouth Presbyterian Church
M. Elaine Wendt, 72, of LeMars, died Wednesday, July 19, 1995, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars.
The former Martha Elaine Donlin, she was born Feb. 3, 1923, near Merrill, in rural Plymouth County, the daughter of Joseph "Jay" T. and Ethel Fern (Cook) Donlin.
She graduated from Jefferson Hight School in Jefferson, S.D., in 1940. She attended Western Union College in LeMars where she received her teacher's certificate. On Jan. 17, 1942, she married Eldon (sic--Edwin) Wendt at Tekamah, Neb.
She taught kindergarten through eighth grade in rural Plymouth County school for several years. She then was a homemaker and later worked in several retail stores in LeMars.
She was a member of Plymouth Presbyterian Church where she had served as a church elder and had been active in the Presbyterian Women. She was also a member of the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 Auxiliary. She enjoyed raising flowers at her home.
Survivors include a daughter, Lee Bell of Dwight, Ill.; a grandson, Christopher Bell of West Des Moines; a great-grandson, Logan Bell of West Des Moines; her mother, Ethel Donlin of LeMars; a sister and brother-in-law, Esther and Wayne Hamilton of Merrill; and a brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Glenda Donlin of Merrill.
She was preceded in death by her father, and her husband, Eldon (sic--Edwin).
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Plymouth Presbyterian Church, rural LeMars, with the Rev. Randy Knuth officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.
