Catherine “Kate” Dreeszen, 96, of Akron, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at the Akron Care Center in Akron, Iowa.

Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa. Pastor Steve Jewett from New Horizons United Church of Christ in Akron will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family present will be from noon until service time on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at the funeral home. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.rexwinkelfh.com.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can made in Kate’s name to the Akron Care Center, New Horizons United Church of Christ, and St. Croix Hospice.

Catherine Betty Yates, the daughter of Herbert and Mary (DeLaughter) Yates, was born on April 12, 1927, in Lawton, Iowa. She attended country school near Lawton and later near Westfield, Iowa.

She was united in marriage to Roy Dreeszen on July 31, 1943, in Dakota City, Nebraska. The couple farmed near Akron and Westfield until 1969. Kate also ran a café in Westfield for a couple of years and worked at Coilcraft in Hawarden, Iowa for over 27 years. Roy passed away August 13, 1996. Kate continued to make her home in Akron. In February of 2019, she became a resident of the Akron Care Center.

She was a founding member of New Horizons United Church of Christ in Akron. Over the years, she enjoyed playing bingo and cards. She also enjoyed baking for her family, friends, and church.

Survivors include her 3 sons: Herb (Marilyn) Dreeszen of Sioux Falls, SD, Ron (Joyce) Dreeszen of Akron, IA, and Mark Dreeszen of Hubbard, NE; a daughter in law, Darlene (Bruce) Elving of Sioux Falls, SD; 10 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Pat Bremer of Akron.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy Dreeszen; two sons: Douglas Dreeszen and Larry (Bev) Dreeszen; a daughter in law, Wanda Dreeszen; a grandson, Chad Dreeszen; her brothers: Herb, Clifford, Clarence, Fred, Virgil, Chester, and Donald Yates; and her sisters: Lucille Schwedler and Evelyn Ragan.
