Mrs. H. W. Johnson Dies at Her Home Sunday After Brief Illness

This community was shock and grieved to learn of the death of Mrs. Henry W. Johnson at her home in this city Sunday, September 22, 1930, at 5:30 a.m. In 1928 she was taken seriously ill and it then appeared that she could not survive, but she recovered again, although she was never as strong as before. On Tuesday morning of last week she was taken suddenly ill again. Everything possible was done for her relief and she appeared to rally for awhile, but the end came suddenly Sunday morning. The cause of death was hemorrhage of the brain. Her age was 71 years and 18days.

Anna Schlueter was born September 10, 1859, in Belleville, Illinois, where she was baptized in the Lutheran church and was confirmed in the Lutheran church at South Litchfield, Ill. In her young womanhood she was in the employ of D. W. Taylor in the New York store at Litchfield, Ill, for ten years. On April 28k, 1885, she was helped in holy wedlock with Henry W. Johnson at Mt. Olive, Ill. This union was blessed with six children—three sons and three daughters. They lived in Mt. Olive until 1892, when they came to Akron, Iowa and have since resided here.

Mrs. Johnson a kind and sympathetic nature endeared her to all. She was a most devoted wife and mother, a splendid neighbor and a valued friend. The entire community sincerely mourns the passing of this fine Christian woman and extends its deep sympathy in the bereaved husband, children and other relatives.

Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons and three daughters—Mrs. Maidie Marbach of Ruble, Iowa; Mrs. Margaret Larsen of Storm Lake, Iowa; Mrs. Anna Dodge of Sioux City, Iowa; George Johnson of Sioux City, Iowa; John Johnson of Denver Colo.; Wm. Johnson of Sioux City, Iowa; two brothers, John Schlueter, of Wolsey, S. D. and Arnd Schlueter, of Akron, Iowa; also by eleven grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at Trinity Lutheran church, of which she had been an active member during her long residence in Akron. Her pastor, Rev. Fred A. Meske, conducted the services. There was a very large attendance at the funeral, many people standing outside the church during the services. Local business houses closed during the funeral hour. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.

All the children were in attendance at the funeral as were their families, except that of John Johnson of Denver; his wife having recently suffered severe burns in an accident. Other relatives from a distance were: John Schlueter and family, Gerhard Schlueter and family, Fred Eden and family, of Wolsey, S. D.; Mr. Anderson and family, of Huron, S. D.; John Null and family of Brunsville, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. Vanderham, of Ireton, Ia.; John Weyen and family of Grant township.
