His mother's maiden name was Carlson. Though this obituary spells his parents last name as Jansson their gravestones spell it Janson.

Frank J. Johnson

Frank Johnson departed this life last Friday afternoon, March 12, 1976, at our Akron Hospital, following a brief illness. He was 75 years of age.

Frank John Johnson was born in Sioux City, Iowa, near Leeds, on October 26, 1900. His parents were Jan and Matilda Jansson.

During childhood he was baptized and in May, 1915, he was confirmed in the Swedish Mission Covenant church of Sioux City. He attended the elementary schools in Leeds as a child and youth.

He came to Akron in 1917 and worked for Ernest Anderson. During years that followed he worked for others in our community.

At a marriage service on November 8, 1933, in the bride’s parents’ home east of Akron, he was united in marriage to Miss Mildred Miller. Pastor Carl W. Samuelson officiated.

They made their home in Akron and had lived here every since. Frank ran a delivery service which continued for about thirty years here in Akron. He delivered groceries and other goods from stores with which he had contracts.

He became a member of Immanuel church in June of 1940 and had been a very active member here since. About 20 years ago he became a custodian of this church and continued in this position until his death. Without question his work was done faithfully and well.

It appears that everyone knew Frank and Frank knew everyone. This tells better than any words we might write about the friendliness of a man who loved people, not least his own family, with real affection. Somehow he seems to all of us a person who is still here.

Among those who survive his departure are” his wife, Mrs. Mildred Johnson; his two sons, Marlin Johnson of Lincoln, Nebraska and Pastor Dennis Johnson of Dallas, Texas; his two daughters, Mrs. Karen Bigelow of Kearny, Nebraska and Mrs. Mary Ellen Carlson of Sioux City; his eight grandchildren; his sister, Mrs. Minnie Johnson of Akron; his brother, Harry Johnson of Akron; many other relatives and friends.

His daughter, Mrs. Sharyl Calvert, and his three sisters, Mary, Hazel and Anna all preceded him in death.

The funeral service in his memory was at Immanuel Lutheran church here in Akron last Monday afternoon, with Pastor David J. Roy, officiating. Mrs. Carol Harris was organist and accompanied Arlin Milbrodt as he sang “This is My Father’s World.” The congregation sang “Praise to the Lord” and “now Thank We All Our God”, Henry Anderson, Milton Anderson, Russell Anderson, Stanley Anderson, Darwin Johnson and Clifford Kilstrom were casket bearers. Interment was in the Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Schroeder Funeral Home.
