WIDELY KNOWN AKRON FARMER DIES SUDDENLY

Henry Hitzemann Spent Most Of Life In Akron Vicinity

Coming as a grievous shock to the family and acquaintances was the death of Henry W. Hitzemann, prominent farmer northeast of town, Tuesday, October 31, 1961, at the Veterans' Hospital, Sioux Falls. He had been ailing somewhat, but entered the hospital for treatment only the day before his death. His age was 65 years, 10 months and 12 days.

Henry William Hitzemann, son of August and Caroline Oofenerde Hitzemann, was born Dec. 19, 1895, in Westfield Township, near Westfield, Plymouth County, Iowa. He was baptized Jan. 12, 1896, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Akron, by Pastor Fred A. Meske, and on April 11, 1911, was confirmed, also in Trinity Lutheran Church, by Pastor Meske, into the Lutheran faith. He received his education in the local schools.

On Feb. 12, 1923, he was married to Helen Von Hagel, at Trinity Church, Akron. The couple farmed in the Akron vicinity all their life together, living in one place 19 years, and 12 years on another. Mr. Hitzemann was a member to Trinity Brotherhood and served on the Church Council. He was a member os the American Legion. He saw active service overseas for his country in World War I.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Helen; five sons, Arnold, Marvin, George, and Arden of Akron, and Robert, of Sioux City, two daughters, Mrs. Helen Meske, and Esther Hitzemann at home, 15 grandchildren, and two brothers and two sisters: Carl, Adolph, Mrs. Minnie Von Hagel, Akron; Mrs. Bertha Lammers, Red Elm, S. Dak.

The community extends sympathy to the bereaved relatives.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Trinity Lutheran Church, Rev. Luther Meyer officiating. Pallbearers were Gary Hartmann, Arthur Rozell, Fred Hillrichs, Carl Hasenbank, Melvin Johnson, Reinie Witt, Henry Kleihauer and Marvin Klemme. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
