Sandra Jennings, 82, formerly of Le Mars

LE MARS—Sandra K. Jennings, aged 82, and formerly of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away in Republic, Missouri, on June 20, 2024.

She was born on March 17, 1942, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Charles and Bonnie Jennings of Le Mars. Sandra graduated from Central High School in Le Mars in 1960. Although her marriage to Earl Amos in 1964 ended, they remained lifelong friends. She pursued her education at Westmar College and obtained her certification in social work. Over 17 years, she worked as a social worker in Iowa, Oklahoma and Arkansas. Additionally, she contributed significantly to the family business, Night Eye Electronic Alarm Company, based in Sioux City, Iowa. In 1990, She relocated to New York City, where she worked with dedication at the LAMBS Center. After moving to Council Bluffs, Iowa, she served with pride at the Salvation Army in Omaha, Nebraska. Her most cherished role was helping with the Annual Holiday Assistance Program; ensuring that struggling families received new clothes, toys and food during the holiday season. She spent the rest of her life in Missouri living near family. While in Missouri she volunteered for James River Church in many places, but she found her greatest blessing running the One Heart Food Pantry at the church.

Sandy (as she preferred to be called) was an avid crafter, finding joy in painting, drawing, crocheting and cross-stitch. Her cross-stitch creations were akin to exquisite paintings! During her time in Le Mars, she constructed a log house on the homestead property where her grandparents once lived. The house, once adorned with beautiful flowers and a thriving vegetable garden, stands as a testament to her respect of heritage.

Although Sandy didn’t have children of her own, she shared a bond with her many nieces, nephews and kids of friend. Among them, her relationship with her great-niece Ivy was extraordinary. Despite their 60-year age difference, they were inseparable from the day Ivy was born; their connection profound and enduring.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Bonnie Jennings, her brother, D. Clayton Jennings and her great-niece, Meghann Jennings.

Surviving family members include her brother, C. Ray Jennings and wife, Marianne, of Republic, MO; nieces, Cheri Wine and husband, Dale, of Cleveland, TN, Catina Sauder and husband, TJ, of Shawnee, KS, Kami Means and partner, Brian McClasky, of Republic, MO, and Olicia Brown and husband, Jackson, of Republic, MO; nephews, Troy Jennings and wife, Tammy, of Clever, MO, and Tyler Jennings and wife, Candace, of Lee’s Summit, MO; and many great-nieces and nephews, Brenna, Emily, Sydney, Maxwell, Kennedy, Paige, Ivy, Carter, Chad, Alex, Isaac, Scarlet, Amelia, Simon, Arwyn, Georgia, Alistair, Tinley and Kash.

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 13, held at Rest Haven Cemetery in Le Mars, IA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Donate Life America.
Sandy, a kidney donor recipient in 2009, was a passionate advocate for organ donation. She encouraged people to register as organ donors, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of others.
