DIED

Mrs. Robert A. Broadbent passed away at her home in this city Tuesday noon, December 16, 1919, the end coming as a relief from long suffering as a result of cancer. About twelve years ago she submitted to an operation for cancer of the breast, and recently she returned from a Sioux City hospital, where she received treatment for about six weeks, but her affliction was of a nature that would not yield to the highest human skill. One of Akron’s noblest and best women, the entire community unites in extending condolence to the bereaved husband, daughters and other relatives.

An obituary appropriate to her life and good works will be published in this paper next week. Deceased was an active and consistent member of the Akron Baptist church, where funeral services, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W. E. Prewitt, this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o’clock, were largely attended.

Relatives who came from a distance were her daughter, Mrs. M. Guernsey, of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Stecker, of Sioux City, and T. P. Guernsey, of Sioux City.

Brief mention was made in these columns last week of the death of Mrs. R. A. Broadbent at her home in this city, to which is supplemented the following sketch of her life:

Elizabeth W. Murray , was born at Woodstock, near Toronto, Canada on March 26, 1850. At the age of ten she moved with her parents to Iowa. On July 7, 1870, she was married to Robert A. Broadbent at West Union, Iowa. To this union were born three children, Mrs. Helen Yeaton, of this city; Mrs. Mabel Guernsey, of Chicago, and Ethel who died at the early age of eighteen months.

Not long after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Broadbent located in Sioux City, Ia., where they were prominently identified with the early-day business and social life of that city. They moved to Akron about 1905, went into business here and resided until the time of Mrs. Broadbent’s death, which came Tuesday, December 9, 1919, at the age of 69 years, 8 months, and 13 days.

Mrs. Broadbent united with the church in early life and was a great church worker all her life, being interested in its every activity—depriving herself of other things that she might attend its services. She was also an active member of the local Woman’s Relief Corps. To know Mrs. Broadbent was to love her. She was a kind and devoted wife and mother, and a friend whose sympathy, hospitality and generosity knew no bounds. Her book of life is closed but its every chapter is filled with good and kindly deeds. She will be missed and mourned in a wide circle of friends here and elsewhere, who extend sympathy to the family.

The funeral services were conducted last Thursday, December 11, at the Akron Baptist church by the pastor, Rev. W. E. Prewitt, assisted by Rev. M. E. Prewitt assisted by Rev. M. E. Spahr, of the Methodist church. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
