March 24, 1937 - April 06, 2021

Gayle Lilly, 84, of Westfield, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2021 at Northern Hills Assisted Living in Sioux City.

Memorial Service will be 7:00 p.m., Sunday, April 11, 2021 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 p.m. and continue until service time at the funeral home.

Gayle Marie Schonher was born on March 24, 1937 on Vilas, South Dakota to Victor and Alice (Thibodeau) Schonher. Their family moved to Sioux City and Gayle was raised and attended school in Sioux City at Heelen Catholic High School. On January 3, 1962 she was united in marriage to Stanley Lilly in Worthington, Minnesota. They made their home in Omaha, Nebraska and Sgt Bluff, Iowa for a short time before moving to Westfield, Iowa. Stanley passed away on November 18, 1998. Gayle continued to live in Westfield until 2019 when she moved to Sioux City.

Gayle was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron. She loved playing bridge and tending to her plants and flower gardens. She also loved her horses and dogs; Gayle and Stanley had several german shorthair pointers who competed in dog shows around the Midwest.

Gayle is survived by her son, Larry Lilly of Le Mars, Iowa; son, Scott (Susan) Lilly of Newell, West Virginia; four grandchildren: brother, Tom (Mary) Schonher: sisters: Betty Wilson and Barb Joy; brother in law, Gilbert (Peggy) Lilly; sisters in law: Nancy Lilly and Mary Lilly; and other extended relatives.

Gayle is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley; and brothers in law: Dennis Joy, Doug Lilly, and Ross Lilly.

Gayle’s family would like to thank Peggy Lilly and the staff at Northern Hills Assisted Living for the wonderful and loving care they provided to Gayle.
