MRS. HAERTNER DIES OF INJURIES IN AUTO ACCIDENT

Was Enroute To Visit Daughter In California When Accident Occurred

Services were held Monday in the Ocheyedan Lutheran Church by the Rev. G. Hattendorf for Mrs. Augusta Haertner, well known Ocheyedan resident. Interment was in the Baker township cemetery near Melvin.

Mrs. Haertner's sudden death was the result of an unfortunate accident which occurred Wednesday evening at about 8 o'clock near North Platte, Neb., as she was traveling to California to visit her daughter, Louise.

The car in which she was riding was struck from the rear by a truck, which apparently failed to stop as required. After the accident in which she received critical internal injuries, which left her in a semi-conscious condition, she was taken to the Potter Hospital in Gothenburg, Neb., and given immediate medical aid. She did not regain consciousness at any time after the accident, and could be aroused to speak only with difficulty. She complained of no pain at any time. At about 6 o'clock Thursday evening she passed away very quietly and peacefully.

Mrs. Augusta Haertner was born on April 29, 1884, in Osceola county to Hans and Lena Graves. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith in infancy, confirmed at the age of 14 years, and remained faithful to the Lutheran Church. On February 20, 1908 she was united in marriage to Mr. Roland McDougall. To this union was born one son, Stanley. On January 6, 1921, she was united in marriage to Mr. Carl Haertner. To this union were born four children, three daughters, Ida, Margaret and Louise and a son Herman, who died in infancy.

The Haertners resided on a farm southwest of Ocheyedan until Mrs. Haertner's husband passed away on May 15, 1933. Mrs. Haertner then continued farming with the help of the children until October 1943, when she moved to Ocheyedan, where she resided until the time of her death.

Surviving Mrs. Haertner are Stanley McDougall of Melvin, Mrs. Harold Bracker of Sibley, Mrs. George Charlton of Ocheyedan and Mrs. Ellsworth Uden of Palos Verdes, Calif. Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Emil Dvorak and Mrs. Anna Frey of Sibley, and one brother, Jerry Graves of Melvin. Three brothers and one sister preceded her in death. Five grandchildren also survive her, besides many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Mrs. Haertner was a member of the Ocheyedan Lutheran Church at the time of her death, and an active member in the Ladies Aid. She was a devoted mother, and a loyal friend to many and will be greatly missed by a wide circle of friends.
