Pvt. Chester Melvin Dau, the only son of Frank and Emma Dau, was born at Melvin, Iowa, on November 12, 1918, and died in service of his county in the European theatre of war, November 29, 1944. He reached the age of 26 years and 17 days.
On May 3, 1944, he was inducted into the army and served for 17 weeks at Camp Roberts, California; after which time he had a furlough and then was sent overseas. He landed in England on November 7, and just 22 days later gave the supreme sacrifice for our country. He was buried in the U. S. military cemetery at Limey, France, December 4, 1944.
In his infancy, Chester was received into the Lutheran Church by the rite of Holy Baptism and in August 1935, he became affiliated with Bethel Lutheran Church by the rite of confirmation.
On September 5, 1940, he was married to Carol Johnson and to this union were born two children, Glenda and Connie Sue.
He leaves to mourn his untimely death his wife, Carol, and two children, Glenda and Connie Sue, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dau, all of Gaza; three sisters, Mrs. Irene Glawe of Cass Lake, Minn., Mrs. Mildred Jebsen of Sutherland, and Verna of Iowa City, Iowa; besides two brothers-in-law and many other relatives and friends.

NOTE:
He was initially buried in the U.S. Military Cemetery in Limey, France and was later re-interred in Waterman Cemetery in Sutherland, Iowa.
