Funeral services for Kenneth Clarence Steffens were conducted at 11 am Monday, February 16, 2009 at the United Methodist Church is Sutherland, Iowa. Pastor Jud Stover officiated. Military services ere conducted by American Legion Post #152 of Sutherland, following the graveside service. Warner Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Kenneth Clarence Steffens, the son of Clarence and Emma Steuck Steffens, was born May 23, 1925 on the family farm in Center Township of O'Brien County, rural Primghar, Iowa. He was baptized in the rural Lutheran church near his birthplace. The church was later moved into Primghar where he was later confirmed. He received his education in rural schools in O'Brien County.

After his schooling he went into farming for Harry Thiessen in rural Sutherland. Kenneth was called into the Army where he served his country, being honorable discharged in 1952. He was still adtive in farming and did some huntin and fishing.

He was a member of the Sutherland American Legion and the Sutherland Ruritan Club.

After a fight with cancer, he entered the Sutherland Care Center on January 31, 2009, where he passed away on February 12, 2009 at the age of 83.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Alvin, and a sister, Leona.

Kenneth leaves to cherish his memory four sisters: Louise Vogt (Oliver) of Spencer, Iowa, Arlene Sampson of Hartley, Iowa, Velma Williams, and Shirley Schehek, both of Waterloo, Iowa, one brother, LeRoy Steffens of Hartley, one sister-in-law, Sally Steffens of Cleghorn, Iowa, many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
