Funeral services for Mary E. Downer, 95, West Liberty, were held Feb. 27, 1996 at the West Liberty United Methodist church, with the Rev. Darwin Moore and Rev. Robert Ahlstrom officiating. Les Verheist was the organist and pallbearers were James Nevins, Neil Wiele, Harold Kline, Howard Harmon, Merle Morehead and Kenneth Ruegsegger. Honorary pallbearers were Ronald Brown, Robert Cline, Elmer Kline, Lamoine Heither, Thomas Brooke, Robert Barclay, Clyde Hudecek and Donald Thompson. Burial was in the Muscatine Memorial Park cemetery.
Mrs. Downer died Feb. 24 at the Lutheran Home in Muscatine, following an extended illness.
The daughter of Arthur and Mary Day Raub, she was born June 8, 1900 in Muscatine county. She married Cloyce H. Downer Aug. 24, 1932 at the Sweetland United Methodist church.
She was a long time resident of Letts and West Liberty before moving to the Lutheran Home in 1987. She was a member of the West Liberty United Methodist church, the Fortnightly Literary Club, the Floriculture Society and a 50 year member of the Eastern Star and T.T.T.
Mrs. Downer is survived by a son, Dayle Downer, Ames. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Home or the West Liberty United Methodist church.
