James Sorgenfrey 1930-1996

Funeral services for James K. Sorgenfrey, 65, Durant, were held Feb. 2, 1996 at Gloria Dei Lutheran church in Durant, with the Rev. Roy Rogers officiating. LaVonne Schrum was the organist and pallbearers were Larry, Murray, Jerry, Rick and Glen Sorgenfrey, and Michael Norton. Honorary pallbearers were Terry, Brian, Greg, Brent and Brett (Putt) Brooks, Kelly Robison, Tim Ervin and Robert Doran. Burial was in the Durant cemetery.

Mr. Sorgenfrey died Jan. 29 at Genesis Medical Center East in Davenport.

The son of Harry and Ella Mae Kai Sorgenfrey, he was born Feb. 25, 1930 in Durant. He married Emogene L. Korthaus March 5, 1955 in Muscatine.

Mr. Sorgenfrey was employed as an electrician for Ervin Pipe and Wire in Wilton. He was previously employed by R.H. Nordurft Plumbing and Heating.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1953 in the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Sorgenfrey was a member of Zeigler Memorial Lutheran church in rural Muscatine.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Julie (Mrs. Gene) Fleetwood, Durant; 3 sons, Brad, Aurora, Colo.; Brian, Rock Island, Ill. and John, Durant; a sister, Mary (Mrs. G. Mel) Norton, Wilton; 4 brothers, Kenneth, Stockton; Howard, Wyoming; and LeMoyne "Butch" and Stan, both of Durant; 6 grandchildren; and an aunt, Linda Sorgenfrey Fletcher, Park Rapids, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Roger.

Memorials may be made to Ziegler Memorial Lutheran church, the Iowa Heart Association or the Durant ambulance.
