Funeral services for Orin "Slick" Tharp, 86, Moscow, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 1996 at Lacock-Bentley Funeral Home in Wilton, with the Rev. Paul Pennington officiating. Kathy Luethye is the organist and pallbearers are Jeff Helmold, Tom Lafrenz, Dennis and Gary Tharp, Donald Holem and Larry Stause. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry and Tom Grings and Larry Sterner. Burial will be in the Muscatine Memorial Park cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 31 at Lacock-Bentley Funeral Home in Wilton.

Mr. Tharp died Jan. 29 at University hospitals in Iowa City.

The son of Lee and Susiella Valet Tharp, he was born June 9, 1909 in Moscow. He married Viola E. McKillip Dec. 5, 1936 in Mt. Pleasant.

He was the owner/operator of Tharps Filling Station in Moscow.

Mr. Tharp was a member of the Moscow Methodist church and the Moscow Fox Hunters Club. He loved the outdoors, hunting and trapping.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Jean (Mrs. Jerry) Smith, Wilton; 3 granddaughters, Jill (Mrs. Tom) Lafrenz; Joanne Holem and Jodi (Mrs. Jeff) Helmold; and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, Iva Cromer in 1918; Irene Rockafellow in 1987 and Lila Thompson in 1992; and 3 brothers, Louis Tharp in 1983; Thomas Tharp in 1992 and Arthur Tharp in 1995.

Memorials may be made to the Moscow United Methodist church.
