From Saturday's Muscatine Journal. At the home of her son, J. F. Beard, corner of Fourth and Chestnut streets, last night at 8:25 o'clock, after along illness, occurred the death of Mrs. Rebecca M. Beard, at the age of 88 years. Mrs. Beard was born in Chester county, Penn., September 7, 1809. She was married to John Beard, January 23, 1834 and came with him to Muscatine in 1835. Her husband died November 17, 1896. The surviving children are James A. Beard in California, Kate, wife of Joseph Seeley, of Greeley, Col.; Sara, wife of W. W. Kennedy, of New Windsor, Col.; Julia A. wife of S. C. Dunn, and Rebecca E. Miller, of this city; Joseph F. Beard, of this city. Deceased had been all her life a member of the Methodist church and in a quiet, unobtrusive way lived the life of an exemplary Christian. She was most esteemed by those who knew her best. a loving and devoted mother, a kind and obliging neighbor and an esteemed old settler has gone to her long rest. The funeral will be from the residence, Sunday afternoon, a 3 o'clock.
