William Phillips 1911-1991

Last rites for William Vaughn Phillips, 80, were held at the West Liberty Methodist church Sept. 28, 1991 with the Rev. Donald Thompson officiating. Burial was in Oak Ridge cemetery. Pallbearers were Mike Kelly, Larry Brennan, Wayne Hoerrmann, Gaylord Wilson, Robert K. Smith and Charles Herrold. Mrs. Betsey Neipert was soloist and Les Ver Heist organist. A memorial fund has been established.

Mr. Phillips died at Mercy hospital, Iowa City, Sept. 25.

The son of William B. and Lurena Gibson Phillips, he was born in Madison county May 12, 1911. He married Ruby Green at Muscatine March 27, 1937. He farmed for several years, worked at the Carey Veterinary Clinic and later at Farm Service Co., West Liberty, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the United Methodist church and the West Liberty Lions Club.

Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Jane Erion, DeWitt; a granddaughter, Mrs. Kim Fleming, West Blockton, Ariz. and 3 great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and a sister.
