Red Oak: Record of Tuesday last: "We are sorry to be compelled to chronicle the death of W. J. Backmaster. He died at 3 o'clock this morning. He leaves a young wife and a large circle of friends in this city to mourn his sudden demise He was confined to his room but a week when that dreadful disease - quick consumption - called him to his long home. His remains will be taken to his wife's home at Lenox, Taylor County, Iowa, for burial. The deceased was 25 years of age, and was blessed with unusual fortitude of character and propensity for prosperity in life."
