Memorial services for Barbara Unger, 83, Red Oak, were Sunday, May 6, at the First Congregational Church with Rev. Elizabeth Dilley officiating. Burial of the cremated remains will take place at a later time. Memorials are suggested to the First Congregational Church or the the charity of the donor's choice. Nelson Boylan-LeRette Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements, Miss Under(sic) died Tuesday (May 1, 2007) at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital.She was born March 12, 1924, in Marshalltown to Clifford and Ruby (Hayzlett) Unger. At a very young age, the family moved to Red Oak. She graduated from Red Oak High School in 1942 and attended the University of Iowa, where she graduated with a bachelor of arts degree. She later received her master of arts degree. She was employed for a short time in Des Moines and eventually moved back to Red Oak where she worked for the Wilson Concrete Company. she later was a caregiver for her mother and father. Over the years, she had been active in the Historical Society, the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Meals on Wheels program.
She was preceded in death by her parents' and sister, Mary M. Stevens.
Survivors include her brother, Richard Unger and his wife Marilyn of Sun City, AZ; nine nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.
