Kathryn Radaker Grotenhuis, 83, Alamo, Texas, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, July 31, 2015 at Fairview Hospital in Edina, Minn.
Kathryn, the daughter of Harry and Marcella Radaker, was born Dec. 1, 1931, and grew up in Wisner, Neb. She attended Colorado Women's College and the University of Nebraska, where she earned a degree in vocal music. Kathryn went on to teach grade school and high school vocal music in Missouri Valley and Red Oak and was a substitute teacher at Stanton Community Schools for several years. Kathryn married James W. Grotenhuis in 1957 and lived in Stanton for forty-three years.
In her later years, Kathryn spent summers in Victoria, Minn. near two of her sons and winters in south Texas with her husband Jim, where she enjoyed the warmth of the sun, time with friends and a passion for a good game of bridge.
Kathryn will be sadly missed by her husband of 58 years, James W. Grotenhuis; her sons, Van, Kurt and Karl; her sister, Jane and husband Dick Moodie; her niece, Pam and husband Eric; her nephew, Bob and wife Pam and her grandchildren John, Andrew, Jack, Kate, and Elizabeth.
A memorial service and celebration of life for Kathryn Grotenhuis will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 2015, at Mamrelund Lutheran Church in Stanton.
