Miss Jessie Knight, 60, bookkeeper for the Spurgeon Mercantile Company here since 1937, died Tuesday at Smith hospital. She had been a hospital patient 10 days.
Funeral services were at First Methodist church this afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Donald C. Bissinger, pastor, and burial was in Oak View cemetery.
The Spurgeon store was closed during the services.
Miss Knight was born May 4, 1893 at Knoxville, the daughter of Charles and Mary Belle Knight. Her mother died in 1899 and Miss Knight and her brother, Harry, then made their home with their grandparents. Following graduation from high school she was associated with a Knoxville retail firm before coming to Albia.
She was a member of First Methodist church and its Wesleyan Guild, and a former Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Albia Woman's club.
Survivors are a brother, Harry Knight, Portland, Ore.; her step-mother, Mrs. Palitha (Telitha) Knight, Des Moines: and a half-sister, Alice Ware, Des Moines.
