Carla Jane Blatchford 12/1/1966 – 4/9/2026, 59-year-old from Onawa, Iowa passed away suddenly in her home in Woonsocket, South Dakota.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 18, 2026 at the Goslar Funeral Home Chapel with Darren C. E. Goslar, officiating. A live stream of the service will be posted on the Goslar Funeral Home website with Carla’s obituary. A luncheon will be held at the Onawa United Methodist Church, Onawa, Iowa, following the service. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Goslar Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Goslar Funeral Home and Monuments, Onawa, Iowa.

Carla was born at the Onawa hospital and joined her six siblings at home to Roger and Nancy (Wyant) Blatchford. Carla was raised in the United Methodist Church of Onawa. Carla was a graduate of West Monona, class of 1985 where she was a gifted member of the band.

Since she was the youngest of seven children you would think the house, she grew up in was getting empty, but in her high school years, she shared the house with foreign exchange student Aurelie Pelletier-Franc, and her senior year with Sandi Grom. She went on to school at Wayne State College and graduated from Western Iowa Tech. She studied accounting and had an extensive career as a bookkeeper and office manager in the healthcare field. She had a passion for working with seniors and worked in Wyoming, Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota.

She married Lyle Butler in June of 1986 and had two children, Ashley (1987) and Isaac (1992). After her divorce, she moved her family to Sheridan, Wyoming and her children were raised there and enjoyed the outdoor activities and wide-open spaces. Throughout her time in Wyoming, many kids enjoyed sitting at Carla’s kitchen table and she had great stories to tell about the Gezzi kids. Robin, Lorraine, Nic, Cassandra and Billy. She was so happy to open her home up and share her life, love, and great food. Carla always considered anyone under her roof as family. Carla made lifelong friends and spent time with Brandi Jo Hancock and her kids. Her children remember her many camping trips and outings. Her brothers and sisters and parents enjoyed many visits to her beloved Wyoming. Her love for that area is expressed by her wishes to have her ashes spread in the mountains around Sheridan.

She returned to Onawa to support her parents as they aged, and for many years was their caregiver. During this time, Carla worked at the local nursing home and was given what she considered to be one of her greatest joys, her grandson, Jackson Kent (2017).

Throughout her life she enjoyed baking and decorating cakes for weddings and special occasions. She always felt privileged to attend her son’s Air Force activities and this last winter made a trip to Eielson Air Force Base in Fairbanks, Alaska where he is stationed. Ashley moved with her mother back to Onawa, and was there to fill in for her mother, so her grandparents always had help with a hot meal, or a visit from the great-grandchild, Jackson. Ashley also has a special interest in caring for seniors and is now attending nursing school and has been working as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Ashley and her mother share the ability to show compassion, and care for the elderly. Carla felt the bumps and bruises of life but was a blessing in many, from her friends and family to the older people she greeted walking down the hall in a nursing home, she was loved.

Survived by her father, Roger Blatchford of Onawa, Iowa; son, Isaac (April) Butler of Fairbanks, Alaska; daughter, Ashley Butler of Onawa, Iowa; grandson, Jackson Butler of Onawa, Iowa; siblings, Vicki (Dan) Blatchford of Storm Lake, Iowa, Jeff (Maggie) Blatchford of Onawa, Iowa, Tim (Janice) Blatchford of Onawa, Iowa, Pam (Ken) Fanghor of Lawrence, Kansas, Tom (Martha) Blatchford of Owensville, Missouri, and Lori (Mike) Russell of Mocksville, North Carolina; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

She was proceeded in death by her mother, Nancy Blatchford; and her nephew, Tony Blatchford.
