Jeannette Tierney, age 91, of Sioux City, Iowa, (formerly of Danbury, IA) passed away on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at the Sunrise Retirement Community, of Sioux City, Iowa.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., with visitation held one hour prior from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Danbury, Iowa. Father William A. McCarthy will officiate.

The Armstrong - Van Houten Funeral Home of Mapleton, Iowa, is in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Jeannette Ida Tierney (LeFebvre) was born on August 11, 1932, in Mapleton, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Ella (Leitzen) LeFebvre. She was the last surviving member of her family of seven brothers, one sister and a set of twins who died shortly after birth.

On October 12, 1954, Jeannette married Harold J. Tierney in Mapleton, and raised seven children. After all the kids were in school, she worked at the bakery in the grocery store in Mapleton. She also worked at Treiber Furniture in Danbury, Iowa, and was a cook at the MVAO grade school in Danbury. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Rosary Society.

Jeannette was a delightful lady, always in a good mood. She loved having coffee with the ladies at the C Store in Danbury. She sewed, baked and played golf. She loved her family above all else and enjoyed spending time with her kids, grandkids and great grandkids.

Survivors include two daughters and two sons, Brenda and husband Doug Uhl of Orange City, IA and Sandi and husband Ted Schrank of Sergeant Bluff, IA; Michael Tierney of Sioux City, IA and Keith Tierney of Reno, NV; daughter-in-law Linda Tierney of Maryland, 6 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jeannette was preceded in death by her husband Hal; three children: Linda, Kevin and Brian Tierney; and all of her siblings.

The family would like to give a very special thank you to Sunrise Retirement Community and to St. Croix Hospice.
