Fairview, Texas, formerly Ida Grove, Iowa

Janis Faye Carper passed away peacefully at home in Fairview on Saturday, July 10, 2021, after an 11-year battle with cancer.

Services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Plano, Texas.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, July 24, at Skien Lutheran Church in Sloan, Iowa. Interment services will immediately follow at Fairview Cemetery, next to Skien Lutheran Church.

Jan was born on Aug. 29, 1941, in Sioux City, to John "Jake" and Mabel Jacobson. She was baptized and confirmed at Skien Lutheran Church in Sloan and graduated from Sloan High School in 1959. Jan lived in Guthrie Center, Iowa, Decatur and Springfield, Ill., Hoxie, Kan., and Spencer, Iowa, and Odebolt, Iowa, from the 1960s through the early 1970s.

Jan started working for GOMACO Corporation in Ida Grove, in 1973. She married Carl Carper on April 15, 1976, in Menno, S.D. Jan worked as an executive secretary for GOMACO's President and with its Sales Department for 32 years. In 2005, after their retirement, Jan and Carl moved to Murphy, Texas. They celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary this past April.

Jan enjoyed traveling with Carl to such places as Cocoa Beach, Fla., Washington, D.C., Canada, Hawaii, Las Vegas, San Diego, and many more. She was an active member at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, and Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Plano. Jan also served on the board of Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove. While enjoying reading and cooking, Jan truly loved entertaining and acting as the consummate hostess to all her family and friends, especially at their lake house near Yankton, S.D.

Jan is survived by her husband, Carl; children, John Enrique Seneca and Elizabeth Murphy; stepchildren, Steve Carper and Carla Tinney (Cliff); grandchildren, Josh, Lane, Jordan, Weston and Carson; brother, Ed Jacobson (Cindy); sister, Nancy Arnold (Larry); nephew, Lex; nieces, Kara, Brittany, Emily and Claire; three grandnieces; and three grandnephews.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents, John (1988) and Mabel (1997).
