Katherine Carlson Willey, 91, of Whiting, Iowa passed away Monday, December 13, 2021 at Pleasant View Care Center, Whiting, Iowa.

A funeral service will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 18, 2021 at the Whiting Christian Church, Whiting, Iowa with Pastor Rusty Hedger and Pastor Josh Nink, officiating. Burial will follow in the Whiting City Cemetery, Whiting, Iowa. A luncheon will be held at the church following the committal service. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa.

Katherine Alice was born February 23, 1930 in Onawa, Iowa the daughter of Everett Wilton and Leone (DeLashmutt) Reed. She grew up in rural Whiting, Iowa. Katherine attended DeLashmutt Country School and graduated from Whiting Community School in 1948.

Katherine and Jack Merland Carlson were united into marriage April 18, 1948 at the Whiting Christian Church. To this union five children were born, Ken, Ann, Dave, Rick, and Dean. She was a house wife and a loving mother to her children. Jack and Katherine enjoyed square dancing together. Jack passed away March 4, 1984 in rural Whiting, Iowa. She worked at the Whiting School for 8 years as an office assistant. For a brief time, Katherine worked at the Whiting State Bank.

Katherine and Vincent R. Willey were united into marriage February 14, 1993 in Whiting, Iowa. Vincent passed away May 15, 2019 at Pleasant View Care Center, Whiting, Iowa.

She enjoyed cooking for her family, church potlucks, and the seed corn harvesting crews. Katherine volunteered at Act II in Onawa. She was a 75+ year member of the Whiting Christian Church. Katherine was a member of the Triple L at the church, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Monona County Fair Association. She enjoyed helping with all of the 4-H activities every summer. Katherine was instrumental with starting Pleasant View Care Center with several other community members.

Survivors include children, Ken (Carolyn) Carlson of Onawa, Iowa, Ann Carlson of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Dave (Nancy) Carlson of Moorhead, Iowa, Jen Carlson of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Dean (Dana) Carlson of Decatur, Nebraska, Kendra (Michael) Lawler of Parnell, Iowa, Brett (Suzanne) Willey of Castalia, Iowa, and Shawna Willey (Leo Einck) of McLean, Virginia; grandchildren, Christopher Carlson, Carrie (Christopher) Krohn, Kevin (Kelly) Carlson, Andrew (Sarah) Carlson, Cassie (Ryan) Mulder, Jordan (Brooke) Carlson, Jackie (Mike) Nelson, Justin (Regan) Carlson, Ryan(Lisa Jorgenson) Carlson, Candace (Matt) Nieveen, Danielle (Justin) Eichelberger, Todd (Amanda) Carlson, Judd (Ericka) Lawler, Joshua (Meghan) Lawler, Nathan Lawler, Grace (Deparis Johnson) Lawler, John Lawler, Clifton (Melissa) Willey, Brock (Kenan) Willey, Tera (Jason) Tweten, Tonya (Jeremy) Geisler, Veronica (Robert) Gogan, Donald (Meredith) Einck, and Vincent Einck; numerous great-grandchildren; four sisters, Jeanne Johnson of Moorhead, Iowa, Colleen Malmberg of Norfolk, Nebraska, Shirley (Howard) Hatlelid of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Donna (Carlton) Ball of Blair, Nebraska; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

She was preceded into eternal life by her parents, Everett and Leone Reed; husbands, Jack Carlson and Vincent Willey; son, Rick Carlson; and three brothers-in-law, Carroll Johnson, Dale Malmberg, and Lee Jensen.

Memorials may be directed in Katherine’s memory to the Whiting Christian Church or Pleasant View Care Center.
