Dwight Clifford Swenson, 67, of Omaha, formerly of Soldier, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021 at his residence, with his wife, Jeanne at his side.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the Soldier Lutheran Church, (Town Church) in Soldier, with Pastor Marsha Smith, officiating. (Please bring and wear masks). Casual or camo attire is requested for those attending. Burial will be in the Soldier Lutheran Cemetery, rural Soldier. A luncheon will follow at the town Church after the burial. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service, Onawa.

Dwight Clifford Swenson was born September 5, 1954, in Denison, the son of Clifford Adolph and Dorothy Marie (King) Swenson. Dwight grew up in old town Moorhead. He was baptized and confirmed in the Bethesda Lutheran Church, Moorhead. He graduated from East Monona High School in 1973, where he was active in sports. He received his associate degree in Engineering from DMACC- Des Moines Area Community College.

Dwight worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for over thirty years, beginning when he was eighteen years old. He retired out of the District 3 Office in Sioux City.

Dwight was united in marriage to Jeanne Pulver on January 21, 2021, in Omaha, after a 5 year relationship.

He is often remembered in his younger years as the bouncer at Timber Ridge near Castana, where he could throw three guys out at one time. Dwight served as a Monona County Iowa Special Deputy for several years during the 1970s under Sheriff Bert Wood.

Dwight was an avid hunter and fisherman and shared his love of hunting through teaching hunter safety courses and taking his family members on hunting trips. He loved being in the great outdoors. His license plate said “Hunt IA.” He enjoyed collecting marbles, knives, guns, and so many friends. His house was always full of friends, discussing life and all it had to offer. Everyone fell in love with Dwight and he always had this special type of bond with anyone that he bestowed his friendship on. Dwight’s quick wit and his sense of humor was one of a kind.

He was honored in 2010 as a Star Award Recipient at the annual June E. Nylen Cancer Center Fundraiser, where he donated a long shiny sword, and remarked, “This is what you need to fight cancer”, or as Dwight called it, “The Dragon.”
Dwight was a member of the Soldier Lutheran Church, Soldier. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Pulver of Omaha; daughter, Amber (Jason) Warren of Whiting; stepsons, David (Diana) Gaule of O'Fallon, Missouri and Eric Pulver of Omaha; grandchildren, Austin Warren, Jasmine Warren, Jake Gaule, and Dylan Gaule; sisters, Donna (Lester) Goslar of Mapleton, and Victoria (Ben) Watkins of Covington, Tennessee; father-in-law, Dr. Jack (Liz) Angus of Omaha, Nebraska; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Dorothy (King) Swenson; infant brother, Samuel K. Swenson; paternal grandparents, Swen A. and Olena (Peterson) Swenson; maternal grandparents, Irvin and Gladys (Rosenbaugh) King; mother-in-law, Barb Angus; and his loyal dog companion, “Sir”.
