Died January 19, 2017

Colleen Gast, age 90, of Osage, Iowa, died Thursday, January 19, 2017, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 23, 2017, at Rock Creek Lutheran Church, 3269 Foothill Avenue, Osage, Iowa, with Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial will be in the Rock Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Rock Creek Lutheran Church.

Colleen was born July 17, 1926, in Osage, Iowa, to Maurice and Merle (Coonradt) Kathan. She was baptized and confirmed at the First Congregational Church in Osage. Colleen graduated from Osage High School in 1944.

On March 8, 1947, Colleen married Bill Gast at First Congregational Church and they moved to the family farm. To this union six children were born. Colleen became a member of Rock Creek Lutheran Church where she remained active for the rest of her life. They lived on the family farm until 1982 when they moved to an acreage one mile south.

Following Bill’s death in 2013, she moved to Evergreen Apartments in Osage. Colleen was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She followed and supported her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in sports and various activities. Colleen took great joy and pride in caring for her family and home. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and baking. A favorite memory of all her children is coming home from school to the aroma and taste of fresh baked bread.

Colleen is survived by her children, Susan Stiverson, Jeanne (Dick) Dahley, Tom (Linda) Gast, Jim (Patty) Gast, Bob (LuAnn) Gast, and Cindy (Dean) Sponheim; grandchildren, Kathy Daley, Julie Theophanes, Sara Cox, Lorie Tesch, Jolene Dixon, Amy Carter, Jaren Wieland, Nicki Prantner, Eric Gast, Robin Morrison, Cliff Gast, Beth Gast, Alma Buco, Grace Gast, Josh Sponheim, and Erin Bremer; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sisters-in-law, Marlys (Clarence) Wegman, Lyla Gast, and Marcy Kathan; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter-in-law, Pam Gast and son-in-law, Jim Stiverson; brothers, Greg and Charlie Kathan; brothers and sisters-in-law, Clyndon and Beatrice Gast, George and Violette Gast, and Dick Gast.
