RICEVILLE, IOWA - Vincent G. “Vince” Hemann, 89, of Riceville, died Tuesday, October 8, 2013, at Riceville Family Care Center in Riceville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 11, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Father Steve Garner presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. Thursday, October 10, at Hindt-Hudek Funeral Home, 407 Woodland Ave., Riceville, with a 4 p.m. rosary and scripture wake service to be held at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Vince was born on November 1, 1923, son of Alban and Kathren (Becker) Hemann in Meyer. He attended Meyer Catholic School until the 8th grade when he decided to help more on the family farm. On October 3, 1946, Vince married Irene Dostart at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Haven.

In his early years, Vince farmed and worked as a plumber. During most of his life Vince worked as a mechanic, owning a used car dealership and working for White Farm Implement. Because Vince grew up during the Depression, he made most of what he had, and wasted nothing. Vince and Irene loved to dance to polka music, often traveling in their motor home and following around polka bands. He believed he was a little bit special because he was born on All Saints Day instead of Halloween.

Vince is survived by his son, David (Meryl) Hemann of Janesville, Wisconsin; two daughters, Rita (Jon) Hiller of LeRoy, Minn., and Ruth (Cyril) Wilberding of Riceville; three sisters: Sally Michels of Austin, Minnesota, Evelyn (Albert) Landherr of Austin, Minnesota, and Isabelle Spitz of Osage; brothers, Gervace Hemann of Riceville, and Clem Hemann of Osage; a sister-in-law, Delores Hemann of Osage; grandchildren: Crystal Gumz of Spence, Wisconsin, Karen (Allen) Hemann of Prairie Farms, Wisconsin, Paul (Jenny) Hiller of Hastings, Minnesota, Stacey (Valerie) Wilberding of Elma, Luke (Kristine) Wilberding of Charles City, and Barry (fiancé Stephanie Smith) Wilberding of Cedar Falls, great-grandchildren, Ashley Hemann of River Falls, Wisconsin, Mitchell Hemann of Prairie Farms, Wisconsin, Alex Gumz of Spencer, Wisconsin, Katelyn, Brooke, Owen Hiller of Hastings, Minnesota, Brady, Samantha, and Vanessa Wilberding of Elma, Morgan Wilberding of Davenport, Kaylee Wilberding of Cedar Falls, and Mackenzie Simmons.
