Gerald Lynn Fredericks

Gerald Lynn Fredericks, age 83, of Osage, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church in Osage with Rev. Anna Blaedel officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Gerald was born February 6, 1927, to Albert John and Nellie Edith (Sherer) Fredericks, in Geneva, Iowa. He graduated from Geneva High School in 1945. On June 12, 1949, he married Donna M. Stackhouse at The Church of Christ in Hampton, Iowa. Gerald worked as carpenter after his graduation from high school and became a farmer in Hansell, Iowa, on March 1, 1950. In 1969, they moved to a farm west of Osage. Gerald took great pride in having a well kept farmstead. He instilled in his children any job or undertaking of projects be done as if it were their own. Gerald was an avid sports fan. He played basketball, softball, and was a baseball pitcher and first baseman. Gerald taught every child how to throw a baseball and softball. He coached a farm team, Little League, and Babe Ruth Teams. Gerald was a devoted fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved watching his boys wrestle and followed his children's activities faithfully. Gerald enjoyed playing saxophone and was a great dancer. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Osage, where he served on various committees.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Donna Fredericks of Osage; his children, Wayne (Ruth) Fredericks of Osage, Alan (Rose) Fredericks of Northwood, Bill (Julie) Fredericks of Thornton, Colorado, Sandy (Randy) Adams of Osage, Ivan (Robin) Fredericks of Northwood, and Dee Ann Fredericks (Paul Leinen) of Des Moines; ten grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Jeffery Jay in 1984; and a brother, Donald.
