Leland Alton Larson was born December 20, 1916 at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa to Elmer Adolph Larson and Alice Dena Lundene, the oldest of their four sons. He was baptized on January 28, 1917 at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, Meroa, Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa. His baptismal sponsors were: Mr. & Mrs. Lars Bastian Larson, Cora Lundene and Hans Lundene. He was confirmed at RCLC on May 24, 1931.

Found in the 1920 - 1940 censuses living at Cedar, Mitchell, Iowa:

1920: Elmer A. Larson 26, Dena A. Larson 26, Leland A. Larson 3.

1925: Elmer A. Larson 31, Alice D. Larson 31, Leland A. Larson 8, Kenneth A. Larson 2.

1930: Elmer A. Larson 36, Alice D. Larson 36, Leland A. Larson 13, Kenneth E. Larson 8, Melbourne A. Larson 4.

1940: Elmer Larson 46, Alice Larson 46, Leland Larson 23, Kenneth Larson 18, Mebowme Larson 14, Donald Larson 7. Married Margaret Helen Brown February 27, 1942 Osage, Mitchell, Iowa; two daughters.

Leland A. Larson died April 14, 1999 at Mason City, Cerro Gordo, Iowa and is buried at the Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg, Palo Alto, Iowa.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 19, 1999 at Bethany Lutheran Church, Emmetsburg, for Leland Alton Larson, 82, of Emmetsburg. The Rev. Steve Ellerbusch officiated and burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg, Iowa. He died Wed., April 14, 1999 at North Iowa Mercy Med. Center, Mason City, Iowa.

Leland was born to Elmer and D. Alice (Lundene) Larson on Dec. 20, 1916 at Osage. Leland graduated from Osage High School. He married Margaret Helen Brown on Feb. 27, 1942 in Osage. After they were married, they worked in a defense plant in Hutchinson, Kansas, making aircraft parts. On August 1, 1943, they purchased the Emmetsburg Produce, which he operated until the mid-60's. After leaving the produce business, he established Interstate Saving Center, which was later sold and became Wentzel's Farm and Home. In addition to these businesses, Leland also farmed in Palo Alto and Floyd counties.

Leland was active in his community, serving on the Emmetsburg City Council, and the Emmetsburg Comm. School Board, the Bethany Lutheran Church Council, Lion's Club, and the Sons of Norway. He enjoyed piloting small airplanes, reading and traveling.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Margaret in 1966; his parents; and two brothers, Kenneth and Melbourne. Those that survive him include daughters, Linda and her husband Lon Twait of Emmetsburg and Diane and her husband, Woodie Haynes of Omaha, NE; 4 grandchildren; a brother, Donald Larson of Osage, and many friends and relatives.
