OSAGE, IOWA - Zita Rogers, 99, of Osage, died Friday, January 10, 2014, at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage. Private funeral services were held.

Zita was born July 5, 1914, on a farm east of St. Ansgar, daughter of Lewis and Pauline (Libersky) Volney. She attended country school and then graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1931, and from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon. She later was an instructor for several years at business colleges in Chicago, Illinois, Mankato, Minnesota, and Mason City, until she returned to St. Ansgar in the mid-1940s to care for her ailing mother. On Feb. 1, 1949, she was united in marriage with Bernard Rogers at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. The couple farmed for several years north of Osage before retiring and moving into the city, in 1989. Bernard Rogers died March 22, 2007. Zita was a long time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage.

Zita is survived by a son, Tom Rogers, and a daughter, Marlys Rogers, and special family friend Ronald Sorensen of Osage, a nephew, Jack Hovelson of Cedar Falls, and a niece, Lynne Hovelson Willey, of The Woodlands, Texas, sister-in-law Frances Kleckner of St. Ansgar and numerous nieces and nephews on the Rogers side of the family.

She was preceded by her parents, a sister, Anita Hovelson, and a nephew, Richard Hovelson, both of New Hartford.
