Funeral services were held on Monday, December 2, 1985, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage, Iowa, for Fred Simon, 88, of Osage. He died on Thursday, November 29, 1985 at an Osage nursing home. The Rev. K. Belk officiated and burial was in the Osage Cemetery. Military rites were conducted by the Osage VFW Post 7920.

Mr. Simon was the son of Henry and Emma (Krieger) Simon, born September 5, 1897 in New Salem, North Dakota. He was a veteran of World War I and served in the Balloon Corps in France and Germany.

On July 12, 1924 he married Gladys Bauer in New Salem. They moved to the Osage area in 1937. He was an auto mechanic at George Mallow and Sons, retiring in 1962.

Mr. Simon was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Donna) Schmarzo of Sioux City, Jean Kienast of Osage, and Mrs. James (Sylvia) Kelly of West Des Moines; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. Simon was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys, in 1975; two brothers, William and Henry; three sisters, Ida, Martha, Elizabeth and Anna; one great-grandson, Mathew Hegg.
