Irene Lillian Klemesrud, 1903-1927

Irene Lillian Klemesrud was born in Cedar Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, to Herman K. and Lise Dynna Klemesrud on April 18, 1903. She was baptized and confirmed in the Rock Creek Lutheran Church and in both the home and church was taught the way in which she should walk. During her childhood she attended the rural schools of her district and later also the Osage High School. The departed was especially talented and interested in music, and had become a very fine pianist.

While she remained at home she completed the course prescribed by the Sherwood Musical School of Chicago under the direction of Miss Perna Whitney of Osage, and at the final examination in Chicago won the scholarship given by this school to the most promising students. Later she continued her studies at the Chicago Musical College, and was also given a scholarship as a reward of merit by this school.

During the last six months of her stay in Chicago she held a position in the offices of the Butler Brothers, and was much sought as an accompanist by many of the musicians of that city.

Before leaving for Chicago she also served as organist of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, and always responded willingly and cheerfully to all requests for service in her congregation.

Irene was a young woman of a quiet and friendly disposition and was greatly loved, not only by her relatives, but other associates and friends. It is indeed hard to bear the loss of one so young, and with such a promising future.

She had suffered with diabetes for some time, but due to medical care and an exceptional will power she had undoubtedly prolonged her life.

The following near relatives survive: her father, Herman K. Klemesrud, three sisters, Mrs. Edwin (Helen) Maakestad, Mrs. Ingvald (Alice) Sponheim, Miss Louise Klemesrud, and also three brothers, Kalmar, Knud and Ludvig, all of this community.

On January 4, 1927 the Rev. O.C. Myhre conducted funeral services at the parental home and at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church. Interment was mad in the Rock Creek cemetery.
