Nels Engebritsen Knudson was born October 12, 1849 at Hordaland, Norway to Engebrigt Knudsen Vike and Kari Ivarsdatter Aure, the third of their five children.

Nels emigrated with his parents and siblings to Spring Prairie, Wisconsin, leaving Bergen Norway on May 15, 1852 and arriving in New York City on July 16, 1852. Ship name "Bjorgiven". In 1854, the family moved to Mitchell County, Iowa.

Found in the 1860 census at Mitchell, Mitchell, Iowa: Ingebret Kenudsen 37, Caroline 31, Knud 13, Iver 12, Nels 10, Jacob 8, Ellen 6.

Nels was confirmed in May of 1865 at the Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church, St Ansgar, Mitchell, Iowa.

Found in the 1870 census at Rock, Mitchell, Iowa: Ing Canuteson 47, Carrie 60, Canute 23, Iver 22, Nelse 19, Jacob 16, Allen 14.

Nels married Ellen G Iverson on March 27, 1875 at Osage, Mitchell, Iowa.

The couple had 3 children:
Chester Engebright (b September 24, 1876 Worth, Iowa, d August 10, 1907 Manly, Iowa);

Nellie (b April 1878 Iowa, d unknown) and

Emma K (b October 1880 Iowa, married Ben Ersland, d unknown) .

1895: Nelson O Kundson 45, Ellen Kundson 46, Chester Kundson 18, Nellie Kundson 16, Emma Kundson 14. 1900: Nels E Knudson 50, farming. Ellen Knudson 52, Chester E Knudson 23, Nellie Knuchon 22, Emma Knuchon 19, Ragana Iverson 41, Chritham C Rund 32.

Nels E Knudson died April 13, 1908 at Manly, Worth, Iowa and is buried at the Manly City Cemetery, Manly, Worth, Iowa.
