N. Severson, one of the pioneers of Mitchell county, was born in Norway, Dec. 28, 1832. He came to America in 1852, and first settled in Dane Co., Wis., where he lived but a short time, when he came to Mitchell county in 1854. H
e was married in 1859 to Anna Gilbert. By this union there are seven children living—Anna, Dina, Oliver, Sever, Gilbert, Nils and Andrew. Mr. Severson has held several local offices. He is a member of Lutheran Church. In 1864 he enlisted in the 13th Iowa, company A, and served until the close of the war, and has never recovered from the effects of service. Ole Severson, a brother, built the first log house in the township, and was drowned in the summer of 1854, in Deer creek. His father, who lived on the place several years, while on a visit to Goodhue Co., Minn., to see his daughter, died in 1875.
